Yes, I know what you mean, the sound "is moving" from ear to ear as you said, which is possible because it has multiple channels. That means that the right and left ear or your headphones basically transmit different sound.

3D and 2D aren't really the right terms for describing music. I think the only thing that gets close to "3D" is 360° audio.
