That's actually very cool places for spending vacations in summer. They look like heaven on earth, no people, wilderness and good fishing.

Very few people live there. Spitsbergen/Svalbard has some mining, so does the Kola peninsula and Novaya Zemlya is mainly a nuclear testing site. The other places are unknown to me. Apart from military bases for strategic reasons and Eskimo-like natives who fish and hunt, nothing happens there.
