I don't envy the Chilean military.
Coming up with strategies to defend that coast line.

Dunno, but if someone did, they could break the supply lines easily.

I mean, apart from the middle 3rd, it's mostly empty.
North has mining towns, south is just wasteland.

Argentina would fall apart if it ever tried to wage war against guerillas in the south.
South America simply can't afford any wars in a conventional manner like Europe.

Peru, Argentina. They might be on good terms now but in geopolitics, things can change in a flash. The most likely culprit would be Bolivia though since they're still salty about losing their coast to Chile.

Chile-Argentina rivalry is almost as old as the countries - they were initially allies in the 1830s vs Peru-Bolivia but went into border dispute with southwards expansion into Patagonia, and only really normalised in 1984 (Tratado de Paz y Amistad de 1984 entre Chile y Argentina). At one point US army even wanted to invade Chile using Argentina as base of operations (Baltimore crisis). Of course everything can easily sour again over shipping through Strait of Magellan, or, if Antarctica claims get unfrozen on international level, for resources in Antarctica.

Bolivia is a wildcard if China meddling and lithium mining becomes a factor.
