OK so, I wanna learn Mongolian, but here is the problem;
Should I wait till 2025 when the Mongolian goverment will supposedly change the alphabet from Cyrilic to the "original" Mongolian Alphabet?, I mean is only 3 years, but 3 years of language learning is a lot, I can start by learning to talk it and understand it but I just don't know what the fuck should I do with the writting system ;_;

I advise you to learn the Cyrillic alphabet of Mongolia, if you do, you'd learn The Russian alphabet as a bonus. Learning the original one will not be use to you in the future. Why do you want to anyway?

Plus even if they switch to the original alphabet most people are going to stick to Cyrillic

You asked why OP wants to learn Mongolian, it's because he is in love with you.

Hey, if I were friends with someone from another country, I would learn their language too.

Mongolian in China is already written on old Mongolian alphabet.
However you should note that the spellings are archaic and represent Classical Mongolian pronunciation better than modern Mongolian (Khalkha or otherwise). If you learn Mongolian written in Mongolian, you will have to learn spellings and pronunciation separately.
Meanwhile, Cyrillic spelling is a quite straightforward representation of pronunciation (in Khalkha dialect). There's some differences mainly in which vowels get fully pronounced and which are reduced but difference is much smaller than between classical spelling and modern pronunciation.
So, if you learn it written on old Mongolian alphabet, you will pretty much learn it on Cyrillic as well - provided you already know Cyrillic in first place.

What I don't know however is if the government approved spellings will just replicate old spellings or is someone working on reforming that & bringing it closer to modern pronunciation.

Yeah, but the grammars and rules are different.

You can learn how to read and write cyrillic in one afternoon, it is worth knowing it anyway just pick it up.

I actually know how to read it in the "russian way" and how to write it in that same way but of course not in the fancy letter but the "horrible" latin style and I say "horrible" because last time I asked a russian if I can write cyrilic like I would write latin alphabet stuff he said "I mean yes of course you can but that's like a crime against beauty" perhaps he was just being dramatic but who knows lol, but still with all of this, learning mongolian cyrlic would be a completely new thing, at least for me.

So if you write on old alphabet, you also have to use old grammars?

>Plus even if they switch to the original alphabet most people are going to stick to Cyrillic

its very strange. Can some music be banned in mongolia? The song is not insulting or so, it on the contrary, exalts Mongolia, and it history, but with a little healthy humour.
