TexasThinking about pilotingBernd2022-02-11 23:14:56 · 4yNo. 136060reply
Can't take my 9-5 engineering job any more lads. Thinking of pilot training; either that or it's rope time. How retarded am I?

Try to work in oil drilling 1 month/1 month

If you have the chance to become a pilot, do it.
If you fail you can still do rope time afterwards or go back to wage slavery.

It's worth to try to chase your dreams, you sound like someone with nothing to lose anyway.

Wouldn't you have to work for a feeder airline for a few years like Republic? Doesn't that lifestyle suck ass?

not down to be an oil baron

I'm in a good position to do it. Have savings and upper-middle class parents so money isn't a big issue. Got my bachelor's in aerospace engineering so that's good. I think I'm going to go for it. I'll still wageslave while training ofc, so the dramatic switch won't come until I'm certified and have my hours.

I mean, wageslave lifestyle sucks ass. At least it's possible to "make it" as a pilot; you'll never "make it" as a wageslave.

do it
TexasBernd2022-02-14 04:16:15 · 4yNo. 136479reply
had my discovery flight today. It was fun, but I felt a lot of enjoyment was sapped over my stress of trying to keep level flight; it's actually a lot harder than it seems to keep steady altitude. However, the instructor said I did good for a first-timer, and I felt *alive* up in the skies.

Going to go for it lads, at least for the private pilot's license. I need to set up a medical first to make sure I'm good to go before dropping $$$, and then I'll sign up for lessons and stuff. I might have to drop my Muay Thai classes though; I'm already paying for guitar lessons too and I'm not sure if I can afford all these classes in terms of finances and free time. We'll see.

Won't your parents help you out? It's your future lol.

isnt being a pilot is something like being a truck driver unless you are a military pilot?

You earn a lot more and you have a lot more responsibility aswell.

Dreams are meant to be followed even if they are retarded. And flying in the sky is not a retarded dream.

ye, but training is expensive and I need to save up for the crap pay that comes with starting out as a pilot

that's the desirable part. I'd rather meme around in the skies and read a book while autopilot does its thing than wageslave at my desk.

Thanks fam. it's just retarded from a financial pov because I could make six figures at my job at a few years and it'll take me a decade+ and a strong amount of luck to reach that if I go pilot route. But not everything is about money.

why not?
People study and train all their life to become engineers. It pays well, too.

What's the problem here?
Why don't you go into management?

You can't just become a manager whenever you want
