Is it? Is ad-blocking really the same as piracy?
FinlandBernd2022-02-01 14:56:52 · 4yNo. 134367reply
Yes in a way.
But all of this rotates back to the question if piracy is bad or not.

It may be the same in the sense that both hurts the creators, but blocking ads in today's internet is totally justified from my point of view. The intrusive and privacy invading nature of today's ads makes ad-blocking a necessity in my opinion.

Imo the most ethical path is to donate 10€ to different content creators monthly. One creator 10€ per month.
Cash per view via adsense is so low that your 10€ donation equals thousands of views.
Normies watching the ads earn the creator like 20th of a cent anyway. So somone donating 10€ gives more than a lifetime access to the content.

Ads are piracy too, they steal my time.

Yes, but almost all ads are too annoying to put up with

BTW copyright should last two or three years max

I concur.
It steals bandwidth and computing power. I spent money (and time and energy to earn that money) on my hardware and they are using it, degrading it without my consent. I want to use my hardware for whatever I want, I want the freedom to choose that. I don't want it render ads and shit like that.
And this too >>134369
Both "piracy" and ad-blocks are tools of freedom, but in differing, albeit similar way.
