The first two doses gave some kind of protection, but it is now becoming weaker. A booster shot increases that protection again. That's why I took it. This is common for many vaccines. Some you only have to take once, some you need to refresh every ten years. Flu vaccine you need to take every year if you choose to take it. It's not quite clear how often a covid vaccine is necessary or for how long, but I think the data shows that a third shot for me wasn't a bad idea at this time.

The mask stops the spread, but it is only 95% effective or something like that. Again, black and white thinking is your enemy here. The mask also can't be worn all the time. When I'm kissing my gf I don't wear a mask, but we could infect each other.

 

I'm not. But I'm very certain that I will encounter the virus because it is flying around everywhere and doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. I'm sure I won't die from it. Whatever mask. Some cloth helps a bit, surgical mask helps more, FFP2 mask helps a lot but obviously still less than a full hazmat suit. Every anti-covid measure isn't perfect, but using many of them at the same time is what you want to do.

Are you sure? Allowing to spread it normally and handle cases with early treatment with meds sounds way better. Also not accounting every death with covid as death by covid would also help.

They mandate the mask (actually here they say cover your face with something from shawl to whatever) on public transport and say keep 1,5m distance from each other, leave gaps in seating arrangement. Sure, some on of the routes during most of the day can be done, but lots of lines will be stuffed with people when peak hours, no way of distancing, and while face cover helps not to spit in the face of the person in front of you, your breath will spread around your head reaching people next and behind of you.

But here in the real world rare is the public transportation company which isn't on the brink of bankruptcy so they have to thin the lines because the can't afford to run that much buses or trams or whatever they use, worsening the overcrowding in the individual vehicles. Good job.

Some have died from it. Some people have lost friends or family members to the disease. But most have not. At best, the average person knows someone who had a minor illness and that's it.

 

But the real worry is that hospitals are overwhelmed. I have a friend who is a doctor. Every time someone comes into the ER and needs to stay at the hospital, they need to make room somehow or organise a transport because all their beds are full. This adds work and stress to doctors and staff and prolonges response time. Nobody is kicked out to die, but now it takes 60 minutes instead of 30 and some people's chance of survival is now 60% instead of 80% or something like that. Some people don't go to the ICU because it is already full with people who are sicker than them, even though being in an ICU might have helped them, too.

 

Things like this aren't felt by the average person. You have to look at statistics or trust experts, and that is difficult to do for many.

And a shitload of people who need medical treatment for other issues have their appointments postponed and rescheduled. Because there's not enough hospital staff to do everything.

 

btw, my grandma was in hospital for non-covid pneumonia a month ago. When you'd be treated as a second class citizen if you didn't have the designated virus. Remember the thread?

It is something I can easily notice from my day to day life.

Take for example domestic travel. Without a vaccination passport, I'm heavily removed from the airline industry unless I'm exempt. This also applies to government jerbs (which are flowing like wine at the moment), post secondary education and most, if not all restaurant settings, which feels redundant if there's still a huge risk of the vaccinated passing on the virus from one another yet we still have this divisive society that is not helping.

What concerns me the most is not the deaths surrounding this, but rather the inefficient vaccines that aren't targeting the current variants. To my knowledge, pfizer is still issuing and governments are still administering the alpha strain vaccination.

We're nearing the end of the virus's life cycle. It'll likely replace the common cold and we will likely continue this witch's hunt over nothing.

To say the average person isn't being indulged in government oversight as we're experiencing inflationary repercussions of endless years of debt and mismanagement and a step towards shifting our industrial and completely unaffected by their vain authoritarian measures to restrict the fastest free flowing virus in modern history, is just silly.
