Hi, I'm on day three of hitching across Canada. So far I only made it from Peterborough to North Bay in one day, then North Bay to Sudbury in another.
Thankfully the weather warms up in a few days but rides aren't as plentiful as the smiles or waves I see. Sudbury was nice too, as a few girls bit their lips before I gave up yesterday evening.

Oh my!, your winter looks wonderful, winter here sucks, it hardly snows here anymore, It's kinda unusual (never been like this before).

I'm trying to get to Vancouver Island. I'm a bit dismayed at the state of Ontario and winter isn't to my liking at the moment. Hitchhiking has been an uphill battle, with every passing day growing worse.
I spent the last six hours of today standing outside of Highway 519's divide onto the 17 after a rather frigid night and I burned my sleeping bag being a goof. I also lost my bivvy somewhere in Sudbury. Shame on me, as its the first crucial item I've ever lost in six years of hitchhiking.
This winter has been odd. There's a good deal of temperature fluctuations and my shoes aren't built to withstand below zero temperatures.
So far so good. I'm taking a bus from White River to Thunder Bay and hopeful to erase a good chunk of desolate emptiness to avoid the onslaught of wind chill.
Only today I suffered. These moments are perfect to distract me from my true sufferings.

Sorry that I can't upload any additional photos. The wifi here is very slow.
I also had a splendid encounter with a schizophrenic native woman. She was belligerent as I asked her a few questions. She called me a white bastard, then swore death upon the English, made very crude gestures about the molestations in residential schools and then gave me three Tim Hortons gift cards (I think they're already used) before she left. I gave her some weed cause why not, I'm not keen to smoke it anymore.

Additional information: The bus to Thunder Bay arrives at 2:30am.

What's the point of this shit? Why hitchhike begging for rides like a gypsy? If you wanted to get to some place just drive. Where do you get food? How did you hitchhike on a bus where they require tickets or bookings?

Like you don't understand the nomad feel.
SloveniaBernd2021-12-11 11:00:37 · 5yNo. 129300reply
Sounds like you don't if you think nomadic lifestyle is about not having the equipment for nomadism and yet still insisting to nomad. Lol.

Nomads don't ask people for rides, they go there themselves. Asking people for stuff is just begging.

Nomads are self-reliant.

There was that scene in Dog Nail Clipper when the boss of the logging camp talked about the Laplanders how they always know where they are despite everything looks the same. They have a sense of direction, and security. Their secret is they are at home everywhere.

What happened after you made it to Thunder Bay?

I actually turned back and settled in Sudbury. Seeing as there's a housing shortage everywhere, I got lucky to even receive a room where I am now.
Someone got murdered yesterday some 500m from where I live too :--DD

Why did you do it???
CanadaBernd2021-12-17 17:57:41 · 5yNo. 129835reply
1. I really enjoyed sitting on the bus enjoying the limbo of travel.
2. I really need a new license, for which one can be gained in 8 months here if I pay a driver's ed course.
3. I'm really tired of hitchhiking.
4. I'm hopelessly depressed and not thinking correctly.

Yeah sorry, I'm retarded when I smoke weed.
The two got into a drug related altercation and were not homeless. Beyond that, I'm not sure why things escalated to such heights as to stab another man. Maybe it was an honour thing.

Hope you’re doing well bro
I respect you, I could never hitchhike what you did, especially in a Canadian winter

I applied to a handful of jobs I'm overqualified for and underqualified for. There's no in between but I am hopeful to pick up a kitchen or office job just to have social contact.
I notice mine less when I'm high. My ears ring when I wake up and I hate it.
