My mum left me denbts.
Technically since I haven't heard from the executor of the will, I could just leave them the denbts.

How much did you net from your inheritance altogether, if you want to say

Zero dollars and possible legal issues since I'm not allowed to be in the estate.

I don't get this. If you know you will inherit more debts than assets, why is there even a discussion whether you should accept it or not? Why would you want to inherit debts?
SloveniaBernd2021-10-27 15:54:44 · 5yNo. 125579reply
If you inherit debnts, shouldn't the state cover part of it due to inheritance tax's?

can't you choose to between inheriting either debts and everything else or nothing at all?

Within the will, it states that any executor (not me atm), will inherit all denbts and assets regardless of the inheritor's state. I don't want to inherit denbts, giving my financial situation will be close to 0, stifling any ability to return to education.
No. That's not their role. You can't tax dents, but I could broker a deal with the companies. I still need to call the phone company, internet company, gas company, insurance company, bank(s), and whatever else arises to settle these denbts and cancel their subscriptions.
Problems were when I found my mum's phone and its locked. Gotta resolve this.
I'm donating all the furniture to charity. Already secured a few charities willing to help me rid the stuff. Selling it is too troublesome and I don't care about the money. If I collect any money, I think it'd show bad faith considering I'm not the executor.
I'm not suffering. I'm more annoyed and worried about going to court if the executor decides to sue me. I'll forfeit the jar of pennies I found last night when I found some shitty weed.

>No. That's not their role. You can't tax dents
Whow, this is extremely rude.
The fact that it doesn't work like this should be cited against inheritance tax, as a proof that the whole system is just kcmoddery.

It is what it is, I can't change it or risk prison if I fail to pay the denbts. Either I pay them, which I'm okay with, it only sets me back 1 year of work or risk the executor of the will finding out I cleared the estate, and abandoned the denbts onto their lap, which inevitably would lead to a court case or let the denbts be until the Canadian revenue agency (tax board) finds out I haven't done my taxes, illegally claimed a benefit out of the country and failed to pay my denbts, thus risking prison, court fines, after they amass a case against me.
The system is broken but hey, it's just me now, so I'm not complaining much.

Is it normal to be harassed by local government services requesting I be counselled? I've had at least five different employees try and toss me a free phone with a free telecom contract, and they still don't get it that I'm fine. I guess the more I push away, the odder it seems to the regular folks that certain of those in society walking among them are capable of handling a "crisis" without external intervention. Maybe it justifies their job as well and adds value to their budget.
It's also very odd I haven't received any details about the autopsy or when I have to pay for her cremation. At this rate, I have my suspicions if they intervened, they'd complicate my life further.

The landlord wants the flat empty in less than a month. My inability to fly posters around town advertising a garage sale or moving everything out by myself feels a bit overwhelming due to the quarantine restrictions in place and being just one retard. All of this retards my will to sell the goods. I don't want to bother trading or dealing with tire kickers at the moment. Donating everything is far easier and I don't give a shit at the end of the day.

First time I hear about this, didn't think it was possible. Are ypu sure OP you can inherit those debts?
Germanyeasy explanationBernd2021-10-27 22:23:57 · 5yNo. 125626reply
you can accept or not accept to inherit them

if you don't, you also don't inherit all the other shit your parents had, like a house, car, etc.

it makes sense, imagine your parents lend money to buy a house, die, and you get the house

Yes I'm sure. I've already gone over the will several times and been advised by a lawyer.
The denbts don't bother me, they're another responsibility I have to work through to get to my goal. Jail or going to court is a looming issue, so it's easier to pay them off after haggling the companies to lower the costs.
I also applied for social housing given the lack of {affordable} housing. At the very least I didn't need to slap a deposit down whenever I stayed in hostels or short term rentals during my visit in nz. Life was a bit simpler over there and believe it or not, cheaper too with the higher minimum wage.

I was digging through the contents of a usb drive and found out my mum opened up a debit card in my name at my old bank. That's another 3000 I have to pay now.
Goddamn the more I look into this, the worse it gets. At the very least she was good at keeping notes on who she owed money to, but I'm guessing I have at least 15k cad of debts to pay back. 2-4k for the cremation. Then I have to sell the cars she owned and how I don't legally own them because of the will, I might just scrap them. I could get 600 for one, maybe 500 for the other. My car is still there oddly enough. So that means I could sell it for 1k at the lowest but I might scrap the shitbox too. Fucking hell man.
It gets worse. Now I'm fucking worried. She's took college courses through my name. At least she got me a 3.6 gpa with the courses she took but I have a student loan too, and the oldest record shows a hefty amount that has likely accumulated interest since 2020.
Goddamn what a woman. I assume she tried to help but man, this is just beyond me, and now I have to deal with a college, Ontario student loans and another bank.
I don't even want to see what other shenanigans she did with my name. I've never had debts before in my life, and since they're legally tied to my name and not her estate, I'm getting fucked up the ass from the looks of it.

RussiaBernd2021-10-28 10:45:11 · 5yNo. 125649reply
Its not exacly debts then, cause you dont really own a house until you paid a loan right.

I assume she had written down my social security number, and photocopied some of my ids before I left. How she managed to reopen an account with a bank I closed and never had joined to hers, is a mystery to me.
I've already emailed the bank, the college, and the government loan office to see what I have to juggle next to prove I never took out these loans.
Honestly I'm not even mad, I'm impressed she managed to do this, and this was during the height of the pandemic, which must have simplified things.

Yeah they're amusing to be around and be birthed from.
>find some old payslips from my first job
>amassed 4k through a few months
>only ever saw $500
Guess she was pinching my money back then too.
>find an invoice about a college fund my father set up when I was a babby
>8k in the 90s
>would have been far more due to interest
>old man took every penny
This shit is getting old. Who's gonna rob me next?
