I haven't seen my housemate in a week or two. He was having a ciggie, and yelled out my name from the courtyard asking if I'm alive. I popped my head out the window to greet him. "Yer unemployed too ya wretch?" I questioned. "Yeh an ium back en the ciggies." he responded. "Find a job yet, bud? I asked. " Nah, mate. No responses. " He mumbled. "I've been watching movies." I laughed in response. "Same." he solemnly replied. "It's a sickness and there's little work at the moment." I lied as I grinned. He laughs and goes back in looking like a beggar on the streets who has risen from a drunken nap.
Many such cases.

Walked into the benefit office after they called me asking if I'd like to get on a benefit. Told the nice old lady no, I need a job. I walked in there and a very cute Aryan receptionist aided me, joked with me a bit, flipped her hair a few times, and said I'd be better suited working a silviculture job instead. Very helpful, very professional and far kinder staff than then employment offices I've gone through in Canada.

I can't even explain it or how its an issue they tried to offer me a benefit first instead of employment, and to top that off, I'm not even a resident of the country.
Every other place I've gone to in search of work has failed to rustle well paying work or stable employment. By nature, labour agencies are scum but efficient at navigating around the issues of drug testing, and irresponsible employees who can't be fired due to NZ reasonable employment laws.
Overall I'm pleased and it feels like I found a really good trick. The job board at this office listed at least thirty to forty more jobs than private job boards and I barely had to do anything except breathe, say yes, and present my passport.
