I am part of a small community and they wanted to do something that requires a pretty niche skill.
I thought that sounded like fun and since I have that skill started to work on a version of that thing. I did most of the ground work and posted that in the thread.

I thought "okay maybe they don't actually care that much about this", but then a few days later more people started posting and throwing in their ideas. They talked about if anyone knew anyone who could do something likes this.
And it's not like my work is bad. I gave them a solution to accomplish what they wanted and they could use it however they want.
It's as if someone wanted to build a swing and you brought over a bunch of power tools, lumber and steel and they just ignore you.
most people just want "fallout 2 [but better]" (tm)
so that you did actual work
a) didn't impress them
b) probably even scared them (as you say there was silence)
d) at any rate it wasn't fallout 2 [but better]
it is safe to say that these people either are useless or something is wrong here
so the fact that you're ignored actually indicates something, its either chaotic events that disturbing the cooperation or these people simply will ignore everything until its "like fallout 2 but better"
you may not pay attention but since they're in your team its more complex then
probably just ignore that whole thing and/or wait second round of "negotiations" (they tend to understand better second time, when/if it is needed)
in general people are the problem and sometimes you can't blame them for that
No wonder old online communities are dying. Even Bernd shows more appreciation towards anonymous strangers.
Well it's really not that impressive of a skill. It's just a bit of knowledge with a level editor.
Someone had the idea of improving a map so I decompiled the map, fixed some obvious mistakes by the original author and made some changes as an example of what is possible.
I used to make maps for CSS that actually got played on community servers back then. I was thinking about starting to make maps again. But now I realize that no one is gonna play them. So why bother?
modding has gotten really shekelgrubbing
went from all "community service" mentality to redirect adlinks to download to patreon exclusivity
some people still do it for free but it's a relative minority who stay like that
can't really blame them when some of these people have been making like $10k a month for years now from it
