Is poor medical education a post-Soviet Union thing or was it before? I thought you poured money into STEM education back in the day.
RussiaBernd2021-02-09 20:01:38 · 5yNo. 109370reply
It isn't poor, it's just not American level good. Medical help is on the par with Europe, but in private clinics mostly for huge money. Education is somehow fine, right the level of people from Iran or Africa.

In most cases yes, but that wasn't the case in that particular case, fortunately. I'm not dating anyone who could be interested in hachs.

Russian doctors have an ok reputation in Germany.

Good doctors, but a bit rough. The kind of doctor that will help, but maybe not be as gentle, recommend "just drink vodka" or something along those lines.

Positive stereotype about Russians is that they have good edcuation and do the right thing even if the circumstances are bad and they don't get thanks or good pay.

>not be as gentle,
No wonder. Nobody would want to see the shit they have seen in life. Just imagine: you are surrounded by psychos, bydlo, narcos and other scum of the earth and you have to help them out of kindness, because payment is so low you can't feel the difference between being a doctor and cashier in a premier clothes shop. It's like being a policemen, but not able to act aggressively.

Doubt. Studying standards have improved with years. USSR is North Korea tier education by modern standards. Now we have so many post graduate programs for improvement it's unbelievable.
Tho enrolling in one of them costs 150-200k rur. That's the only reason doctors en masse do not improve their skills constantly.
Also we have improved treatment protocols, but they are still vere severe and don't allow modern techniques.
Did you know that doctors can't arrange researchers and analyses if it's not in the official guides? I once asked for the fucking anti-spores gel for feets and even that can't be prescribed without related conditions in patient's complaints.

Ussr was better at educating engineers and people that *ackshully* produce things
Saint PetersburgBernd2021-02-13 23:35:03 · 5yNo. 109630reply
Sure thing. I don't really believe that you need to study 10 years kind of biology to be able to determine flu. And other than something that simple still requires a dozen of analyses and researches, no matter how much the doctor is educated.
If engineers were treating people and curing them, they would have already developed a system so even the stupidest person could follow simple rules and figure out what's wrong is going on. Like in fucking every complex engineering system.

Engineers make poor biomedical scientists, it's like saying a programmer could replace a pure mathematician. You're talking about two different thought processes, not to mention how ambiguous a lot of high level biology and biochemistry is
RussiaBernd2021-02-16 06:46:47 · 5yNo. 109956reply
> it's like saying a programmer could replace a pure mathematician
In Russia a programmer might do that. I'm a programmer and pure mathematician at the same time, it's what written in my diploma exactly and it's what I've been studying.
We actually have many mixed up with programming specializations next to pure programming or engineering. Bioinformatics, for example, considered engineering discipline and not medical, from what I've seen about their educational program and requirements to study that profession. But that's about some good universities with somehow rather unique specialties. General programmers here totally cannot into science.

>Engineers make poor biomedical scientists,
Why so? I've had a glimpse into pathoanatomy and bioinformatics and can't say it's dramatically different from what I've been processing while doing informatics tasks when I do some researches. Can you elaborate please?
Also so many medical machines are made by engineers. How do you think they could write its software if they were not able to understand the medical part? But that's just a guess, not a statement.
