Instead of that I'm stuck in this frozen hell.

Plenty as well. Sometimes I spend there the whole night. But you can't find a company of strangers there tho. There are some famous coffee shops with rooms 10 x 10 meters that usually filled up with people you can't stand on two legs there. Nice experience.

So different from the sterile Fazer cafes in Helsinki, due to fire safety we would never allow an establishment without plenty empty space.

How are coffee shops open all night?

We don’t have a proper cafe culture here, socialising is done predominantly in bars over beer.

Tell me about the interview process. I'm curious how it differs to how it is here

One of the things that is pretty sweet about my company (I'm at a SaaS company owned by private equity firm) is the work-life balance

>How did you find out about company culture if there was no work for 2 weeks?
I worked a little bit longer than that, actually, holidays were excluded.

>Tell me about the interview process.
Nothing special. You have to know shitton of things in different aspects and be able to write code on the interview. That simple.
One detail: the higher salary, the more specific questions for the position you get. Or better say, the more specific answers the interviewer are waiting from you, and even simple mistakes could cost you the job. They wait that your answer will be almost exactly what they expect, no matter is it better or worse. If it is better answer, they might think that it is wrong.
So it's pure luck, and that's why the range of knowledge should be insanely wide — just to be able to make less mistakes on unfamiliar subjects and even know what answers are considered as mistakes by others.

From experiencing I guess. You should try to read books with examples of solving typical tasks in your favorite %warehouse technology name%. Like, you know, pic related. But if you aren't using them much, it's waste of time and I would just go into stackexchange subsite and ask for particular task there.

And I told you I'm pretty stupid, so kinda like your advice, I frequently don't remember things I read and I need to do them hands-on in order for them to stick. It's just hard for me to find where I can import a large data set for free.

I am a manager of data entry type of work but I do a bit of analysis myself and frequently collaborate with the data analyst/data science teams day-to-day.

Probably nowhere. Especially assuming you would need to run some queries on the data. At least I haven't heard of anything that's relatively free and can have huge data sets you can't process on your desktop.

>I am a manager of data entry type of work but I do a bit of analysis myself and frequently collaborate with the data analyst/data science teams day-to-day.
Just ask your local programmers to make an interface for your day to day tasks, it's normal thing to ask from your dev department to make the task less complex. Can you do that?

>Are you a full stack engineer?
Most of the time I don't work with the front-end, but usually I apply as a front-end developer. Hm, I'm something between an architect and back-end developer.

And in a weird way I'm glad I haven't been overlooking some sort of free software I could have been using. Still, it sucks

And ofc at work we use snowflake and have all the infrastructure necessary, but it's not so easy to play around with this data. Perhaps I should say it's not as interesting, and after working I would rather play around with other datasets than the same stuff from work.

>Tell me how is the corporate culture so bad.
It isn't. It's good, it's nice and I would dream to work with such good people as I see here. Only technical side is saddening me. I haven't seen such low quality of work. Maybe it's not even that low compared to what you see on average, but it's unforgivably love for such huge product. Have you heard about technical debt? They has a lot. Tho it won't harm the product, not in the way. But it's pain for engineers, and very rarely for the end users.

I was joking ofc. Me owning .0000000000000001% of the company means nothing
My entire department is riddled with tech debt so I know it so. And I can imagine how hard it is to transition for a huge corporation. Lots of potential pitfalls there
How would you be able to take what you see and fashion it into a question in your next interview to determine if there is a lot of tech debnt there?
Not particularly. I've done this from time to time but I spend a lot of my week working and really do get tired of looking at the same shit

>How would you be able to take what you see and fashion it into a question in your next interview to determine if there is a lot of tech debnt there?
If I correctly understood your question, the I'll say that low quality of work stops me from working productive and fulfil my purpose as a highly skilled engineer because these skills are unnecessary and basically I'm simply overskilled.
>I spend a lot of my week working and really do get tired of looking at the same shit

It was a badly formulated question. In short, how do you plan on understanding whether a lot of tech debt exists in any given company? Of course, they will never say so directly

It was me earlier and I meant things like holidays, benefits, time off and such. I worked 10 days all of December.
I also generally push myself and work harder than I need to. That's just how I am.

> In short, how do you plan on understanding whether a lot of tech debt exists in any given company?
I simply won't be able to do this. This why I applied to the work I have in the first place — to see how things will go. In Russia we have 3 months time when you can easily quit the job, hence be easily fired is also a possibility, so both sides use that time to understand needs and capabilities of each other.
In America, if you took and offer and wanna leave in several weeks, is it considered as something shameful?
