I gathered over 100 steam friends from 2005 to around 2010.
But most of them have not been online for several years so I deleted everyone I didn't remember.

Now for the last 10 years my friend list is looking like this and even tho I still play games, I can't make friends anymore.
I just don't understand how I did it in the past. People would just start talking to me.

You became old

No idea why I made this thread. I am just confused by it all.

I remember playing with 30 year olds when I was 15. They where so popular, had money, had their own servers, hosted their own websites and forums and played as long as they wanted.

Now I can't do anything to be popular. No one cares about communities, forums or servers.

Yeah, but old people used to be common back in the day. Every clan or guild had at least a married couple and some boomers.

When I was young and has Messenger I had no problems just talking with new people, especially with girls online, I was a superchatter.
Today, at 30yo, I am unable to keep a convo going. All my old internet friends have vanished and I'm not making new ones. I just play with one IRL-friend now

I think it's an age thing, when you are a teenager or kid it's supereasy to just start chatting and so on

I think it's this

When I played WoW classic this year, I had that old school experience again - people chatting and making friends. The new generation of gamers want instant gratification and constant progress, natural friendships aren't part of that. Also, people might be playing with IRL friends more?

Same, I had a random internet friend on ICQ that would always let his sister on his PC when he was doing something else. She sent me pictures of her and her friends and asked my option about her hair style and stuff.
Good times.

Oh, how I miss those times. Took them for granted.

Lol, I remember the first time I went on an IRC and some 12 year old girl mailed me a picture of herself without me prompting her. I was around that age myself and totally creeped out, never went back

I think I was something like 16yo and was playing Socom 3 on my PS2. Some 18yo Australian girl added me and we started chatting and she was extremely suggesting in her chats :D I kept calm and only had serious discussions while she kept hinting on sexy things :D Still don't know if it actually was a girl or actually a dude, but it's a fun memory
