This idea met by racism and a need to dehumanize the enslaved black population, which was seen as less human, which justified denying them human rights. 2) In recent times, whites are losing their total grip on racial superiority in the United States. This loss of a dominating position is perceived by some as a slippery slope towards being the underclass in the near future. A great anxiety comes from other developments in society, too.
