What is your opinion on the destruction of Baghdad by the Mongols?

Reading One Thousand and One Nights, it's interesting to think that such incredibly humorous, sexually explicit material came out of this period of time and how now it's suppressed and forgotten.

I really wonder what the world would have become had Baghdad not fallen or had not been so utterly destroyed.

Imagine what could have been if Arabs and Muslims hadn't taken over.

it isn't my opinion, more the sliver of scholarship i've digested on the subject, but its impact on the wider world is somewhat overstated. some trade routes were disrupted but the city had been in decline for centuries by that point, along with its surrounds.
it was quite a symbolic massacre but very much the 'library of alexandria burning' of the dar.

Muslims couldve been at the pinnacle of civilization if they could drop their dumb religion. I dont remember exactly but ive read somewhere muslims was very good at math and really ahead of time long time ago but then some dude prohibited them to develop further because allah and shit. What a waste.

Why can't the middle east be peaceful. I would love to be a tourist and look at old buildings and stuff.

Not enough Lebensraum.

Honestly, I think the reason the Middle East can seemingly have no peace is because there are too many awful people with awful ideas.

I don't know how one stops sectarian violence; it's not a thing in my country. But it would seem that at the very base level, it has to stem from a shared quality of the people, at least in part.
