Oh wow, that seems like a lot. Is it easy for you to get professional help or can you read up on the internet how to quit?
 
Three drinks a day sounds doable, though. If you drink yourself to sleep everyday I imagine it is more difficult to reduce the amount. If it is three drinks, it might not be too hard to replace one drink with maybe a non-alcoholic beer or a tea, do that for a few weeks and then cut the second drink.

If you really care and want to quit, I strongly suggest getting Zyban (bupropion). It's in a generic form and very cheap with insurance (free) or without (~$9 for a month supply).
 
It's a low dose anti-depressant that's commonly used for smoking cessation. If you go to a doctor (or even just call a doctor's office) they will prescribe it to you without drama or even many questions if you say you want it for smoking cessation. You take generally take two tablets a day, but I would just take one in the morning and feel fine.
 
I had to quit smoking and since I tried cold turkey but couldn't hack it, I was prescribed this. You can smoke or drink but you feel nothing, and you have minor to no withdraws. Another positive is that it sort of reset my brain chemistry, and my often crippling anxiety and/or depressive episodes (maybe linked to nicotine and alcohol) melted away. I can drink now, but I'm much more moderate in my consumption and haven't relapsed back into the daily, heavy drinking I used to do. I've also lost a ton of weight and feel much better.
 
Two things to remember:
 
1.) When you first quit drinking, you'll notice that it's hard to sleep at first. Your body is just used to falling asleep with the aid of alcohol. Also when you quit drinking, you'll notice the quality of your sleep improves dramatically after a week.
 
2.) It used to take me about two or three hours to "wake up" every day. I was really sluggish in the morning. After Zyban my routine was basically normal.
