FinlandThe pet craze during coronaBernd2020-10-03 21:05:14 · 6yNo. 103150reply
Have you noticed similar in your country, puppies and kittens flying off the shelves? Hamsters and bunnies going out of stock?

OP is saving money for the inevitable mass-abandonment of all kinds of furry critters, when the global depression hits hard and "normal" life returns post-covid-19.

I will be the petgarch when others are cutting expenses in their household budgets.

Please rate plan.

Is it that expensive to buy an abandoned Kot or Doggo from an animal shelter?
FinlandBernd2020-10-03 21:12:47 · 6yNo. 103153reply
No, but taking good care of said pet requires money.
GermanyBernd2020-10-03 21:13:33 · 6yNo. 103154reply
How much to you pay monthly for a kot? How much for Doggo like German shepard? I bet they eat alot

t. never had a pet

Doggos, the bigger they are, can cost hundreds of € in a month. If they are healthy, vet bills will break the bank and drive you into debt.

Here is a comprehensive rundown of pet costs, don't mind the cringy acting:

Sounds good. You will be the critter king.

A kot costs next to nothing if you choose to treat it like an outdoor friendo and not go nuts over it like the western culture would like you to. It starts with 39c per day for a can of Aldi cat food. (We give our kot nicer food because he likes those baggies so much :3)

I have you noticed that we have much more stray cats.

Think 6 months from now, so many homeless animals...

I may have seen more missing pet signs. Though I may have only just now noticed. I'm never sure if a cat is a stray or the owners just let them roam.

Where I am, all the good dogs or cats get adopted from the pound very quickly. All that is left are the aggressive, old or disabled ones.
AustraliaBernd2020-10-08 07:21:08 · 6yNo. 103343reply
That cat looks so cuddly and soft. Would make the perfect hat or slippers.
FinlandBernd2020-10-08 13:57:46 · 6yNo. 103353reply
Here dogs had even before corona pet craze a system where they almost never ended up at shelters. Cats, guinea pigs and bunnies were plenty though at shelters, and could stay years there.
FinlandBernd2020-10-08 13:58:37 · 6yNo. 103354reply
Oh and turtles, people for some reason dumped poor turtles.

Sad. I feel like here but just release them into rivers...

Why can someone have so many ferrets while OP has none?

OP is the kind of guy who can put 2000€ on emergency vet bills so that the family kot can live 2 more years. Eating pets is out of the question.

Imagine the smell, but very cute.
I didn't see any pet craze or heard of it, gladly.

I can't see a single kot providing much meat, especially kots. Guinea pigs are edible but they have to be fattened up a lot and even then their meat is thin.
I know some places have a pork shortage but I don't know how bad it's gotten on some places.

Maybe 6 months until the deep recession hits petgarch households. But now that I think, there will be another flood of pets needing rehoming: When those lucky enough to keep their jobs return to the office and have no time no more for their animals at home.

What does Bernd think?

Also, the world is basically burning around me, despite it I have high ferret fever. Feels inappropriate but we all have our coping mechanisms, right?
