Finlandcar troublesBernd2020-09-22 17:12:59 · 6yNo. 102765reply
So worn out after today.

Drove (dad's) car back from yearly maintenance, thought everything was fine after the crash but no. Steering wheel is slightly crooked and there is something wrong with the right rear axel(?) even though they were fixed a year ago at a different shop, apprently shoddy work. I was prepared for surprises, but it will be a pain in the ass to get the garage to fix their mistake nevermind get the insurance company to pay up the money for realigning the wheel. Fortunately even if it cost's 500€+ no problem, as I have built up another emergency fund last summer I can dip into.

Feel free to blogpost about your car itt.

I don’t have a car and I’m happy I don’t need one. Driving and owning cars is slavery.

On the countryside car is must-have.

That and with elderly sick parents the car has been a literal life-saver.

That sucks, banned in a rented GARAGE of all places?

What do you mean with of all places?

Also i forgot making TÜV for the car i had to pay penalty 30€.
And i need a new battery, but i can't decide which brand i should buy.

German neighbor-watch must be on another level.

>60km a day
You poor bastard, I don't look forward to 20+km trips, must be hell driving thrice that in a day.
GermanyBernd2020-09-23 15:20:57 · 6yNo. 102788reply
You have no idea. I am not that Bernd, but I can attest to neighbor gestapo. "Look at the car he is driving, I wonder if he can afford it? He is probably ans drug dealer, I will keep a close watch on him!"

Never underestimate german NPC jealousy and the consequences.
Most people who are "optimizing" their taxes are caught because their neighbors are reporting their suspicions to the authorities.

People on imageboards seem to have a crazy opposition to living in the city. But in terms of neighborhood-watch it has crazy benefits compared to the German countryside. One of the most important arguments in favor of city life for me.

so turns out it wasn't culture of stasi, but it was simply culture of german cities?
GermanyBernd2020-09-23 23:19:18 · 6yNo. 102803reply
No.
City = anonymous
Countryside = neighbours watching your every move
GermanyBernd2020-09-24 03:46:01 · 6yNo. 102819reply
Nah its not that bad actually. I just follow one road for 30km one way. Atleast its not stressful. Only thing that really sucks is that i have to refuel my car every week
GermanyBernd2020-09-24 06:17:40 · 6yNo. 102821reply
Wrong. It totally depends on the city and your neighborhood.

Outside of your neighborhood, most city dwellers don't really care who you are and probably won't remember unless they have to deal with you specifically. There's too much visual noise to focus on one person. Especially during busy hours. Even weirdos are just taken as part of the scenery.
I was once in a village and nobody there knew the addresses. They just guided themselves by saying "go right from Valentino's house" or "you're looking for Alfredo's place" and similar shit. And they automatically know you're an alien.
That wasn't Germany obviously but I get what he's getting at. I don't get why people have this boner for small town life. I'd kill myself within a year.

I live in a 10k people place, so it's certainly not a city.
as I am bernd, only my closest neighbours know I even exist, and we dont bother each other.
No trouble to die over.

Car was fucky already and also needed the yearly inspection, so I figured I would let the workshop also do the oil change and small fixes.

Big mistake. The most obvious fix they didn't do at all (a leaky turbo pipe, most probably), and for my axis hull they ordered a wrong part and they also somehow caused my roof to leak through the top console when it rains.

Also, since they didn't manage to even finish my car in time, I took it back and fixed most of it myself.

Yesterday, suddenly the ventilation stopped working, and today I dismantled the whole interior and managed to locate and circumvent the broken part (now it's just in or off, but it works).

I'm bretty proud of myself
