Doesn't look that well cooked to me. What sort of pan did you use, temperature and time? Did you use butter?

Pan is shit like the cheapest you can get. I plan to buy cast iron in future. Temperature on electrofurnace in my dorm like medium high heat. I used sunflower oil. Cooked like 3 minutes on one side then flipped. Then added a lot ofbutter, crushed garlic and parsley. I basted it for few mins. Then flipped again and basted a bit more. Inside temperature was higher than needed but I was ok with the result. It was 71 C instead of 63 C. Meat is tougher than I wanted but averall good enough. Again rump steak I cooked previously was better with more tender meat and less redundant parts like bones and some fibers.

The only issue I can see from this is that you might not have gotten a high enough temperature for "scharf anbraten" (searing?) the steak. And it certainly looks like you're missing some nice Röstaromen. Having a heavier pan and a hot stove helps with that, but cast iron isn't necessary in my opinion. I have a nice steel pan and it works.
Choice of meat is probably an important factor, like you describe, but I'll need to experiment more with that myself.

Again, it is not that bad as it looks. But I think you are right about temperature. It is just that although I got medium rare it is still a bit tougher than I expected it to be.

I make my steak in my Dutch oven because I have no other cast iron
