FinlandSpooky seasonBernd2020-09-13 17:10:43 · 6yNo. 101886reply
Now it's official.

The evenings are getting dark, time put lanterns outside.

Halloween is coming and I'm doing the shopping from last year's leftover stock, you can still get them for half the price before October.

How will Bernd spend the fast approaching spooky season?

I suppose I'm going to watch some horror classics at last, I consider myself a cinephile but I still haven't seen Karloff's "Frankenstein" and Lugosi's "Dracula". The older silent horrors make me sleepy, maybe talkies will be better...

Sounds cozy. You have watched all the modern classics already?

No, it is dark, now is spooky season.

Having a field day window shopping Halloween decorations and canned drinks on your Amazon. Cheaper to order novelty stuff from overseas than Germany or UK surprisingly.

Depends on what you mean by "modern" and "classics", I thought the genre is pretty much dead by now :DDDD Well, spiritually dead I mean.

Halloween commercials on the telly, it's time lads!

If you don't mind trashy movies which are intentionally trashy, I can recommend Murder Party. It's not a classic by a long shot, but very entertaining and surprisingly well made.

Im getting the saddenings. Summer is finally over. Now the dark time begins.
Winter on germany sucks, the days are so short...you basically go to work when its dark and when you go home its again dark. Sometimes i didnt see the sun for a week or so.

Maybe the problem is your job not the short days. Winter is most comfy and calm while everything is asleep when you are warm.

Snow, wind and rain will be coming soon. It's the cozy time of the year.

Call me a traitor, but I lost the appreciation for winter after living in a place 2m meters of snow was the norm, autumn is cozier by a long shot.

Christmas is nice though, best project of the year is shopping for presents for family (which I have already done).
CaliforniaBernd2020-09-26 16:35:47 · 6yNo. 102899reply
I was so sick last Christmas I didn't even put up and decorations. I think it was covid.

I used to scoff at the idea of seasonal holidays and seasonal decorations in your home. But now that I'm a boomer I'm beginning to realize the value of traditions. Probably also being inside all the time leads to a desire to change my environment while not actually going someplace else. So I like the idea of decorating your home differently in spring, summer, fall and winter.

I'm not religious, but I feel like returning to old European traditions to some degree. Halloween is perfect for that. However, I don't want the added American consoomerist, crap either. So I'm looking to decore my home in a more neofolk-sort of way with DIY things etc. But I'm still not 100% about how to go about it.

I went out under the full moon, played my harmonica, talked with drunks who offered me a good paying job beginning Tuesday and watched a swarm of seagulls swarm downtown.
Being responsible to go to work isn't as fun as it should be when i want to trick or treat as a ghost and maybe rob some kids of their candy.

Since when did Halloween become an international thing? I remember as a kid going to visit family in France (~2005 or so) and they complained that Halloween was an idiotic, commercial, and above all else a nonsensical American holiday and thank god it wasn't in Europe.

Now I see my cousins in Australia, China, and Belgium dressing up their kids and sending them to strangers doors to get candy.

When America falls is this her legacy? A holiday where one dresses up in a silly costume to get small pieces of candy from strangers?

I remember when they told us at school that Halloween was a Satanic invention and an American evil. It was a Catholic school, though I wonder if they're still at it.

We don't have that here, we only celebrate the day of the deceased on Nov 1st which is a day people go to cemeteries and church crypts to visit their loved ones who have passed away.

*Día de los Difuntos. Día de los muertos is the creepy Mexican version that's nothing like ours. And no, people don't dress up here on that date, but they do it on December 31st.

Reminds me of how we had Criollo Song Day instead of Halloween. They told us at school that Halloween was Satanic.
