That ain't a shirt, it's like a short jacket, should be fit for autumn if it's puffy enough.

These are a loose tapered cut, my favourite and most comfortable fit ever. Much like old Levi's 560/550. His photos are terrible but I don't regret taking the risk so far.

And of course they had all sorts of cuts and models in 1985-1993 since competition with the Wect (or more like Turks, Indians and Poles if you're not extremely lucky) required better designs. Wearing Soviet clothes and especially jeans wasn't considered cool though, and they only managed to sew good jeans by the very end of the USSR. The earlier pairs are God-awful like picrel 2: they didn't have any actual denim, they didn't have any machines to actually get them riveted (so they used metal buttons that fake looking like a rivet), the cuts were outdated, and on top of it all this metal thing on picrel 3 says "JEANS" to give you an idea of what you're looking at if you get confus.

I have collected buttons for years and thought I might start learning sowing skills by fixing broken clothes. Sowing on buttons, patching holes etc. But the only way my clothes break is breakdown of the materials, which can't really be fixed without replacing almost everything.

 

So I decided to change my focus on actually making clothing myself. I asked the man, the myth, the legend Knoch himself for advice on how to start and actually got really helpful replies. But I'm afraid the first things I need to invest in are a sowing machine and a clothing iron. I'll see if I can get the machine for free from one of my grandmas. They are from the first generation that abandoned traditions like self-made clothing for post-war Wirtschaftswunder consoomerism, so they probably don't use theirs anymore.

 

Any tips where to find ressources for a first sowing project? I'm thinking some kind of field jacket I can wear on hikes.

Sometimes, patches can look pretty. There's also a way to fix crotch blowouts by sewing the hole shut, almost like weaving new fabric on top of the existing one. When done properly, you can't even notice from distance. Now that's a skill I'd love to master.

 

Did Knoch sew that jacket? Sewing your own stuff seems to be a very decent hobby, even though it sounds gay. That's a skill that takes years of practice, though.

 

 

I'd try to find the sewing pattern of Wehrmacht M44, can't think of anything more primitive than that. It was designed to be extremely simple in production, after all.

Gonna order this Chinese puffer from late 80's and take a break from the shopping spree, it's getting out of hand.

 

Less than 35 bucks for three new items though, cheaper than thrifting, and I paid for shipping each time.
