Was about to say that Tolkien was imitating old folklore tradition with his fantasy works but then I realized that LOTR is pure postmodernism

i enjoyed movies so much not sure if i enjoy reading about the plot i know

yeah theyre really cool books tbh

esp if youre autistic and enjoy fantasy adaptations of all manners of different ancient yuro cultures

tolkien was quite the scholar on such things

 

the movies were well done imo, but they hardly scratch the surface of the incredible world building that he did in his writing

The books are great, at least in english. In german they are okay-ish. No idea if the russian translation holds up.

The books are better than the movies. They left out many story points in the movies and even rewrote some characters. I read the books after the movies and it was absolutely worth it

In german with the original tolkien approved translation they are great

We got over 10 translations and peopel still argue which one is the best, it's a proper holy war material.

Yet they all fail at some aspects: one has great dialogue but retarded "translated" names you can't take seriously, another will have dumb dialogue but with transliterated names at least.

I mean the Margaret Carroux translation. All others are crap
