I have huge problems going to sleep. I usually end up worrying about things. For example a couple of days ago I thought about food and what I could cook the next day and then I thought about my disgusting fat grandmother eating like a pig and all kinds of family stuff related to her etc etc
A minor hack I found is leaving clothes and a light on. That way my brain somehow thinks it's just a nap and that's fine. But if I prepare myself to go to bed properly it seems like too much of a commitment and the worry train starts running through my brain.

i just listen to some podcast, there was times when i was sleeping exclusively listening Zizek, try that or maybe leave a tv on.
its not uncommon this problem.

Good idea Zizek. After a while I can't really follow him so I can fall asleep naturally. A danger is when the topic is more engaging and you start concentrating trying to understand.

Same problem except that my worries are very dark and depressive.

Sames. Listening to radio might help. Or read a book before going to sleep. Try not to lurk with smartphone in bed before sleep

1. Get Melatonin pills to sleep
2. Listen to a good podcast while falling asleep

What's your relationship with coffee and nicotine? These two are the biggest pre-sleep anxiety enables for me.

You need a doctors prescription for melatonin in Germany.

Use nightmode on your phone in the evening and avoid blue light exposure.

Another thing you can do to calm yourself down and bring sleep closer is Conscious Breathing

CBD is also freely available in Germany from what I understand

No coffee and no nicotine for me.

Thanks for the tips. But I've heard melatonin does make you very groggy the next day and isn't recommended for long term use. Any opinions about that?

Eating big makes me not sleep well tbh.

What does CBD oil do? I'm not a druggie...

cbd is not an intoxicant
it has a variety of medical uses. look it up, esp if its kosher on the germoney
my mom uses it to replace tylenol as its very good for inflammation but says that its very helpful at the end of the day and helps her sleep good

We discussed my abnormal sleeping patterns with my father, why I go to sleep so late and why do I wake so late.

It has always been a touchy issue for me as I DESPERATELY want to be a productive morning person. The kind of morning lark that wakes up at 5 AM to go for a run, then shower and then a healthy breakfast before off to work. Instead I wake up at 9AM the earliest or feel like death, practically falling asleep the moment I sit down. Upper elementary and high school were a nightmare because of it, I had so many notices and failed classes from just sleeping in whenever there was a 8AM class. Uni was better with a more relaxed schedule and widely accepted all-nighters. Even my first proper employer after college made openly fun of me for being so sleepy at morning-shifts.

Well the discussion with dad: He said "You know, maybe you're just a night-person, why fight it?"

And there, 15 years of suffering fell off of the heart, from a simple half-hearted remark from a person who has seen the full spectrum since my late teens (and been one of the many to guilt me for it too). He gave up on me, maybe I should too give up and accept my fate as the graveyard shift weirdo.

I did some research into this and there seems to be a genetic component to it. Some people really are night-people and not just lazy.

Supposedly frank zappa had an oscillating sleep regime. His excuse about staying up at night was the night's peacefulness and I too have witnessed how calm it is with a lack of cars, people and other distractions.

Sadly, my current living situation doesn't allow this, but I would love to use modern technology to improve the lighting situation in my apartment and make it mimic natural patterns to some degree.
- blinders that open automatically in the morning to let the sun in, but are closed at night to keep artificial light out
- if it's winter and I need to get up before dawn I would have lights go on automatically to wake me more naturally
... stuff like that.

I almost forgot! Passionflower extract is excellent stuff for knocking yourself out in the evening. Much more potent than melatonin in this regard. Melatonin is still worth it even taken together with passionflower because it makes sleep more refreshing
