Can we have a Neofolk thread here?

Maybe not only about sharing music like on nukc, but also serious discussions about the aesthetics, underlying philosophies etc...

Its kinda weird when people who live in concret jungle dress up and pretend to be forest dwellers )))
GermanyBernd2020-09-05 17:10:55 · 6yNo. 101300reply
Who says all Neofolk fans live in the concrete jungle?
Besides, for nature it's probably best if humans stay somewhat concentrated in cities and leave nature alone. I understand Russia is an exception, but in Central Europe you can't walk a mile without coming across a human settlement.

Just make space for some kind of Soviet Bernd Republic where we can live in comfy neofolk villages.
GermanyBernd2020-09-05 17:49:22 · 6yNo. 101310reply
My boomer Dad once went on this tirade about how global warming couldn't be real because humans are too insignificant to change big things about nature like that.
I was like WTF!? You literally can go dozens of kilometers in any direction and there is not a single square meter of nature left. Everything is streets, farms, villages or cities. Even the forests aren't natural. The trees are planted and harvested for industrial use, the animals are hunted to keep the population down so the trees aren't damaged, beras, lynxes and wolves have become extinct, swamps have been drained, etc etc.

its been like that forever tbh
yuros are all right on top one another, its ridiculous
its no wonder their whole history is just beating the fuck out of each other
no room to breathe

anyways i dont really into neofolk too much tbh arr sound samemuh acoustic + too much reverbno offense
but i remember when gen died there was a good thread on kohl and some bernd posted this TG cover by death in rome, and i thought it was really well done tbh
TG is a notoriously hard band to cover, and for them to whip this together within a few days of gens death definitely shows a commanding skill of their medium, even if its not really my cuppa.
so i can respect that at least

I wish I had a Neofolk gf. We could
- do diy stuff like making our own clothes together
- go innawoods
- celebrate pagan holidays instead of Chr*stian ones
- get some comfy remote jobs and have a house with a big garden in the countryside
- have sex listening to death in june
GermanyBernd2020-09-05 17:59:21 · 6yNo. 101314reply
I honestly like that Neofolk is stylisticaly somewhat boring. That makes it ideal for putting it as background music while doing other stuff.
But yeah, Death in Rome is pretty good.

Translation of text on 3rd pic:
>It is not the clothes that shape culture. The clothes are a result of culture and the foolery of fashion is one of the ultimate consequences of culture, a perversion, because it stands so far away from nature.

Can Bernds recommend traditional folk songs that have some kind of neofolk vibe? I recently discovered a few that were later covered by neofolk bands and I find the stories about them very interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Stretched_on_Your_Grave
>"I Am Stretched on Your Grave" is a translation of an anonymous 17th-century Irish poem titled "Táim sínte ar do thuama".[1] It was translated into English several times, most notably by Frank O'Connor.

https://www.contemplator.com/child/stones.html
>The story is said to be based on an incident in 1589 that occurred near Edinburgh. One of the Somervilles accidentally shot and killed his brother. According to Child another possible origin for the story took place in 1682 when a thirteen year old boy killed his brother because his brother had been pulling his hair.

I've actually read about the science of why boobs get saggy. Apparently it's not so easy and there is a debate if bras help or hurt.
The most important factors seem to be smoking, childbirth and weight gain and loss.
United StatesBernd2020-09-06 00:43:24 · 6yNo. 101373reply
yea theres genetics and general health/well being in there too
but expecting even moderate sized boobs to stand up straight at attention in anything other than early teens is out of the question
theyre only really firm while still developing due to how the budding process works
fully developed breasts are gonna have some give to em pretty much no matter what

some of the early death in june stuff is fun but the genre suffers a lot from everything sounding the same I think
GermanyBernd2020-09-07 10:49:04 · 6yNo. 101521reply
I only listen to a couple of albums that fit the strict definition of neofolk tbh. But I think the general feel of the subculture also applies to more traditional folk music and some avantgarde stuff, that usually isn't called neofolk, too.
As mentioned earlier, I also like neofolk as a set of philosophies loosely based on neofolk.

Already have :3 They have carried me through Swedish swamps in the summer and Icelandic moonscapes in deep winter. Very nice boots.
I'm mainly in search of shirts and stuff for the upcoming fall and winter for hikes in good ol' Germany.
