Debunkiert, es gab bereits Berichte von der Sichtung toter Fische und Enten im Gleiwitzer Kanal im März und April und Mitte Juli, 100km südlich von besagtem Kraftwerk. Der Gleiwitzer Kanal verbindet das Gleiwitzer Industriegebiet mit der Oder, und beherbergt viele Kohleindustrieunternehmen und interessanterweise auch Waffenindustrie.
>First signals appeared in March this year. Concerned locals sent to the local council images showing waters of the Gleiwitz canal, depicting dead fish, dead ducks and peculiar looking sludge. Councilmen made inquires at appropriate institutions, such as Polish Waters, Environmental Protection Inspectorate and Polish Fishermen's Union (PZW). As they admitted in a conversation they had with us in July, they answers they received were unclear and didn't really explain anything. At first people speculated that industries located at the banks of the Gleiwitz canal could have released hazardous substances. The information was never confirmed. The issue was metaphorically stuck for several months.
>The situation repeated itself in July. Again in the Gleiwitz canal and the Łabędy and Kędzierzyn-Koźle gates there appeared dead fish and birds, and more of suspicious sludge floating on the water's surface. We asked Linda Hofman, the spokesperson of RZGW Gliwice and deputy inspector Marek Słomski, the spokesperson of Gliwice Police. The police released a note stating that due to an ongoing investigation, no information was made public. Polish Waters explained, that the probable cause of the fish die off is low availability of oxygen. Experienced fishermen associated with PZW did not believe any of it.
>Fish suffocation is a complicated process and may depend on multiple factors. High temperature alone does not deprive the waters of soluble oxygen. In nearby Sośnica ponds the water surface temperature is 25 to 30 degrees and the fish are alive and well. In the Gleiwitz canal it couldn't be the lack of oxygen causing the mass die off - said Krzysztof, member of PZW circle number 14 in Sośnica.
>Some blame the catastrophe on Bumar-Łabędy SA, which produces, among other things, parts for heavy artillery. According to the locals, in March when Russian invasion of Ukraine started, Bumar started producing a lot more military hardware, and the waste had to be dumped somewhere.
>Sewage control of Bumar was supposed to take place back in July (it still didn't happen). Today, the voivodeship's branch of EPA informed the press that they are expressly forbidden to disclose any and all information surrounding Bumar and the arms industry.
