To me the whole site feels like they slowly want to re-integrate Bernds into the normie-mindset.
They didn't outright prohibit controversial topics but move them to negatively connotated boards like /rvss/ and /m/ so they can both show their utter contempt yet still proclaim that they allow free speech.
And of course they ban everyone posting a controversial opinion outside of these boards.
They big radio festival they held last fall also felt to me like typical "love-bombing" that cults do to make Bernds feel more attached to that site and become more willing to accept the "new" paradigm.
Ultimately they want to establish an allowed range of expression like reddit, it seems.

I was thinking something similar or that they are trying to recreate the "pure love" atmosphere of old Krautchan from 15 years ago. They don't understand that atmosphere came out of respect among Bernds and their takes and funny posts, it wasn't artificial like they are trying to do now.
