breaking a knee wont kill anybody so you have time to see her, would be different if she had a stroke or a heart attack

Breaking bones in the legs or hips is often literally a death sentence for old people. There will be complications from laying in bed, not getting enough movement, etc. One problem follows the other and gramma is pushing the edelweiss from below.

A broken knee isn't as bad as a broken hip joint.
 
 
Don't panic, you won't help her by being nervous. Better yet, in your free time research some ointments and other treatments like massages may be and other physiotherapy measures you can perform to help her recuperate.
