I agree. And the future will fuck things even more. Societal collapse incoming. At least now we know how it feels when civilizations wither.

Things are actually 100x better than you think when you enligthen yourself with facts. I suggest you read or listen to the audio version of Hans Rosling "Factfulness".

Not everything is fine but that was not the case in the past either and hardly anything is worse now than it was in the past

I am not still a teenager to look at 10 years ago. I look at 30-40 years ago and see that common people have lost all power they held, so their lifes are fully controlled.

I am furthermore in a sector where we engage with depletion of natural resources everywhere, manmade risk increasing everywhere, no work stability in any sector.

There are signs of lifespan decreasing along with worst life overall despite advances in technology.

And in any case, if you dont think that climate change is not already affecting you and it wont monopolize your life and your potential children lives you are not paying attention.
NetherlandsBernd2021-05-02 17:38:21 · 5yNo. 114026reply
And I will continue about the court jesters some like so much. It was only a year ago that propaganda spammed how 'Everything is under control, dont worry, haha china is fucked'. This didnt work so well now, did it?

How about the 'Nah treehugers and there is not a signle problem unregulated free market cant solve' and suddenly not only year its a very large problem but also me and you are going to pay the bill for all those decades of polluting the shit out of the environment.

I have reached a point that I dont even care that everything we do is collected and the moment you even try to tell others that the law is being violeted in a massive scale (see snowden and hundreds of others) the whole system that serves just a few wealthy elite is turning against you.

Fascism and nazism having a come back with the European Union classic wishfull thinking at best and governments like Hungary, Italy, Greece supporting.

Yeah everything is fine...Dont even get me started with overfishing, plastics in the oceans, soil degradation, antiobiotic resistance etc...

And yes, due to massive surveilance and probably other reasons too, we dont have as much crime as is being reported constantly (by the propaganda machine that is 99% of the media) but how many years until all those segregated in ghettos full of debt, no jobs and no prospects start gangs and its a free for all for those out of the gated communities?

Fuck you for being naive even if it is not your fault.

Insignificant statistical fluctuation. Healthcare is better than ever and there's more health and longevity information out there than ever before

Seems to me that widespread solar and small nuke plants are just around the corner

I have no doubt that our environmental problems will all be easily resolved by technological progress in the near future, even though I myself don't know how

Microplastic pollution could be resolved by releasing plastic consuming GMO bacteria into the oceans or something lile that, etc etc. For every problem there is surely a solution, someone just has to invent it first
SloveniaBernd2021-05-02 19:52:55 · 5yNo. 114035reply
>Microplastic pollution could be resolved by releasing plastic consuming GMO bacteria into the oceans
I am somewhat worried that this (fairly sure I've seen studies that there's a lot of bacteria eating plastics in seas now already) is actually accelerating microplastic pollution, since bacteria attack large chunks first and turn them into a lot of smaller chunks first before eating them all up

An optimist only pays attention to the good things and ignores the bad things. This path leads to naivety.
A pessimist only pays attention to the bad things and ignores the good things. This path leads to hopelessness and depression. They imagine everything is becoming worse (you are here).

The intellectual choice is to follow the data and research and make your conclusion based on the evidence. You will become a possibilist. A possibilist often will be insulted to be an optimist by the depressed pessimists, thinking the possibilist only thinks good things are happening and ignore the bad things. The possibilist acknowledges there are many problems still out there to be fixed, but also acknowledges how everything is much better off today, and "the good old times" were actually much worse than you remember, humans tend to gravitate towards nostalgializing their memories.

I highly recommend to start researching the facts from the sites you obviously ignored, such as gapminder.org.
