I am not exactly an indie dev (and I'd rather mod my ideas rather than do an entire game)
But I have been having these ideas lately about "vocational" types of games and such. Aka various job simulators, yeah. I am curious about maaany fields of work and I'd love to experience them in a form of a videogame at least, which imo has the potential to be an extremely educational format for this.

>a realistic factory manager simulator
>a realistic military simulator - from intelligence to piloting drones to rocket management to stormtrooping
>a simulator of laying down internet cables across the world (i am just curious how its done lol)
>being head of economics manager simulator (ie changing interest rates etc, trying to stay afloat)

Now obviously this is an already existing genre so there's probably a lot of stuff like these.
One of the most memorable of these for me was an "economic strategy game" from my childhood where you needed to manage wildlife conservation policies to upkeep the population of wild leopards in the Far East. The devs behind this game even said they will implement the best strategies irl. You had to manage policies towards feeding the prey animals in places where leopards live, funding animal sanctuaries, actually asking for funding period, managing policies against poachers, doing interviews and persuading famous people to your cause, etc etc. It's actually quite hard and I still can't understand how to win.
Now, the leopard population did improve nowadays since 2007 when the game was released or so… So maybe this worked.
Pic related, "Save the leopard" or Спасти леопарда. Maybe this is a good target for reverse engineering for the purposes of translation but it seems like a very hard project.

There are some vocational games, like truck and farming simulators. There is Gearhead Garage for mechanics roleplay building cars from parts. Various management games, like Game Dev Tycoon as well.

When I was a kid we played a tabletop board game "Catch Them Alive" where each player was a hunter who captured animals for zoo. Only could move the pieces like the knight in chess. The animals were rated based on rarity, and each added some score.
It was a fun and educational game. I wonder if it can be adapted to pc somehow.
Reminds me tho there are fishing and hunting games. There was a Deer Hunter where the hunter was a deer and shot redneck hunters. There were fun game calls (when hunters make animal noises to attract them) about free beer and girls in bikini.

Yeah there's a lot of farming simulators but I feel like the farming there is a bit too simple. (yeah its a lot to ask for, I know) I've played Rune Factory and Stardew Valley.

Honestly if I'm ever going to make games it's probably going to be some sort of simulators with very simple graphics cause I hate doing graphics and I love researching how things are made.

Ohh can you tell me what it taught you? Was it about the different kinds of animals or something more?

It taught recognizing animals. And while it did not had more information on them, it made us read about them or pay attention when watching documentaries. Also couple of glimpses about the world, natural phenomenons, neger tribes, epidemics. It's just illustration but gave a setting to imagine exotic places.
Here's couple of pics of the game.

Looks very interestsing. Reminds me of how I used to read animal encyclopedias for fun as a kid.

Btw, I keep seeing that people are making actual computers in Terraria and Minecraft. This is has the potential to be very educational, so maybe like a mod with directions on how to do this.
