How do I steal a book from my local library without repercussions? It's not available to buy second hand. The problem is that the book is stored at the library's stacks, so I would have to order it to get it. Do you think I could try saying I lost it and just give them some money instead to keep it?

you should look up their policy on lost items, they might charge you a huge fee considering the book sounds rare

or you could make a copy of the cover with a bunch of crayons and hope they don't notice :DD

Lend the book. Read it. Return it within time.
BerndBernd2024-06-27 06:55:38 · 2yNo. 313478reply
You borrow it, then take a pic of the pages at home.
GermanyBernd2024-06-28 22:47:13 · 2yNo. 313658reply
Pay a dark refugee a few euros to borrow the book and give it to you. He will never enter that library again and they won't go after a negro.
GermanyBernd2024-06-29 13:28:45 · 2yNo. 313691reply
Not possible, as I want to own it so I can read it whenever I like.
GermanyBernd2024-06-29 14:36:37 · 2yNo. 313692reply
Whenever you have the urge to read it you can go to the library and borrow it.

Print your own book.
You can build a Gutenberg press if you want.

I think the OP picrel is just illustration. I've no doubt works of Sophocles can be bought everywhere.

No, it's not just illustration, it's that specific book I want. It's special for two reasons: 1. those are the translations of Sophocles's works by Friedrich Hölderlin, the greatest German poet who has ever lived. 2. That edition includes a lengthy introduction by the legendary classicist Wolfgang Schadewaldt and I want to read that. To my knowledge this introduction can't be found anywhere else. (3. lesser reason, I collect books from the "Fischer Bücherei" from the 1950s-1970s)

Maybe try reading the thread before replying. It’s not the edition I’m looking for.

1. borrow the book from the library
2. scan it page by page
3. merge all scanned pages into one pdf file
4. upload it online for others to enjoy
5. problems don't

that's what I've done in the exact same situation

No, it isn't. I'm not interested in digital books you consoom through screens that literally make your brain shrink.

Get another edition of that book. Make a sticker of the barcode of the original book and stick it on the edition. Return that instead.

Have you heard of printers? You can print and bind your scan. Seriously, it's beyond me how you managed to survive this long.

Huh. Interesting.
As said above:

2. scan;
3. print;
4. bind;
5. ???
6. PROFIT

When you are a collector you are not satisfied to have a crude copy of the thing you want to collect.
HungaryBernd2024-07-03 11:55:36 · 2yNo. 313908reply
If you were a collector you'd know where to buy, what places to keep tab on, or even people whom let you know if a copy is available. We have antiquaries, auction houses, and well collectors themselves. I'm sure Germany all has that and more.
