Played some game then slowly the screen faded into black. First I thought the game crashed in a weird way but the screen never went on against. Now whenever I shut the screen off and on again I can see a couple of colored pin stripes at random places on the screen for some time until it all goes black again.

What can I do?
I already ordered ans new one. Apparently expensive ones are not worth it so I will try out a cheap one. Meanwhile I will use my about 20 years old one with thousands of working hours that apparently will never die.
I might try to take the shitty dell one apart. I doubt that I find something that I can fix but it will be interesting to look on the board inside.

Why are you generalizing?
What are you using your monitor for?
GermanyBernd2024-01-20 21:30:57 · 2yNo. 298931reply
I attach it to my computer so it can display the output of the graphics card.

GermanyBernd2024-01-21 07:44:33 · 2yNo. 298945reply
No,, but you should choose your monitor based on what you are using it for the most

What is the difference between a gaming, a movies, and an office work monitor?
GermanyBernd2024-01-21 08:25:12 · 2yNo. 298952reply
for (pro)gayming you want a tn panel with quick response time, good contrast and shadows and high refresh rate (144hz+), for everything else and casual gayming ips panels are probably always the superior choice. high refresh rates however are pleasant on the eyes so imo it's also worth for just casual gayming and work.
just buy 4 monitors in case one breaks again

I'm not an expert myself, I just follow their advice. As I watch movies the most, I got one that's best suited for movies according to this site:
https://pcmonitors.info/recommendations/
GermanyBernd2024-01-21 09:11:17 · 2yNo. 298963reply
Lel TVs have a framerate of more around 60Hz and I bet more than 10ms reaction time and people even play video games and watch movies on those. My current monitor is from a time when even sub 16ms reaction times were considered good for a TFT monitor and although the resolution is a little low it is still fine for me.

While I'm certain that I could make out differences comparing different monitors side by side I doubt that I will notice much when I use only one. To me these monitor-discussions feel a lot like audio enthusiasts discussing their golden plated, diamond shielded cables. Maybe I'm just not pro enough to see the differences and maybe I will delete this post once my cheapo monitor arrives and turns out to be dogshit .
For me a 300€ monitor irrespective of the other specs is not worth it if it does not last longer than 2 years. I expect a certain kind of durability of expensive equipment.

>For me a 300€ monitor irrespective of the other specs is not worth it if it does not last longer than 2 years
Again, why are you generalizing? Just because your monitor doesn't last longer than two years, doesn't mean that no 300€ monitor does.
GermanyBernd2024-01-21 09:31:35 · 2yNo. 298965reply

My monitor broke maybe an hour after I cleaned the surface with alcohol. I used a sprayer to spray on the alcohol and a paper towel to wipe it off. There was never enough liquid on the monitor that it could have went into the gaps and short circuited some connection. Hence, I believe that the mechanical stress of wiping off the monitor damaged something in the panel, that lead to a complete destruction of the panel.
That means the problem is in the fragility of the panel itself.

High tech is usually highly centralized. There might be a couple hundred factories worldwide that currently produce 27 inch panels but they will mostly use the same production steps. There might be differences between a VA, TN, or IPS panel. Especially considering mechanical stress I can't find anything doing ans quick search.

I tried buying a brand name expensive monitor thinking that this would mean higher quality but I made a bad experience with it. Now I will try a cheap one. High tech usually does not provide metrics like durability, so I can either do extensive research hoping to find something in the breadcrumbs but I'm not willing to dedicate time into that. So I'll just do my own experiments. What is your problem with that?
GermanyBernd2024-01-21 10:21:10 · 2yNo. 298971reply
Geliebter Bruder, so the monitor didn’t break on its own. You damaged it somehow. You shouldn’t blame the monitor for it, but your bad handling of it.
