her name was Tiffy. When she died I cried several times a a day for a couple of days after it. This never happened to me before or since. I just got teary eyes remembering her.
I doubt that I still have pictures of her. I believe most of them got erased in hard drive failures.
Maybe the one from her last day but I wouldn't want to post it because she looked so rough on it. She went blind about two years before we had to put her down. Eventually we couldn't let her outside on her own anymore because she didn't find her way home anymore and she could only go in the garden.
At the end her hind legs got so stiff that she couldn't walk anymore. She couldn't go to the toilet anymore and it looked like she was in pain constantly. So we put her down.
I wished I would have spent more quality time with her in her last year. But I had to write my masters thesis and was very occupied with it. Who could have known that this was her last year.

Yes, of course. The pain of her passing only shows me how good it has been to have her. Also I think the first time experiencing to lose something you hold so dearly to you is always the worst because it hits you so unexpectedly. So it wouldn't be that bad a second time.

for me it wasn't that unexpected, I've been thinking about putting my dog down for a while but decided against it since his quality of life was still good and meds were working well; ...or maybe it was unexpected since I thought we would have more time and one morning he just died in my arms

While this does sound very tough on the internet, I'm fairly certain that you do and always did care about your mom. She is a great woman after all.
Also while it might be annoying to care for an animal it might be comforting to have something to care about and cuddle when you come home. This might make it easier to deal with other things in life.

I concluded it from the posts I've read from poland so far. I read posts of Bernds very throroughly and create kitchen sink psychological profiles of every Bernd on this board. Even you. This allows me to form hypotheses that reach further than the direct implications of single posts or threads.
GermanyBernd2023-02-05 12:53:04 · 3yNo. 252653reply
Many Bernds seem to come from single mother households.
GermanyBernd2023-02-05 12:55:11 · 3yNo. 252655reply
It's not about the single mother but about the lack of a father figure during childhood. Bernds form just as easily when they have fathers that failed in their role.
PolandBernd2023-02-05 13:57:20 · 3yNo. 252656reply
okay, but it's not like you picked your parents and chose to have them in your life and care about them; but you can choose not to let anyone else in

I think I already said that in another thread, but taking care of my dog was never annoying, the worst part about having him was actually worrying that something bad would happen and that feeling is literally the only thing I don't miss about him

eh, I don't know if she's that great, she clearly cares about me but I've got issues that can be traced back to her so I'm not sure if her becoming a mother was a good idea

I'm not from a single mother household, but I don't really like my father as a person, does it count?
GermanyBernd2023-02-05 15:04:36 · 3yNo. 252661reply
>but taking care of my dog was never annoying,
A dog shits at least once a day. Assuming that you are a good person and picked up the poop to throw it into the garbage you picked up 5475 poops in the lifetime of your dog.
With an average weigh of 340g per poop that are 1861.5kg of transported dog shit in a dog's lifetime.
It feels a little surreal to me that dog owners willingly deal with dog shit everyday but I guess the rest of the dog experience somehow makes up for it.

it's not the most pleasant thing in the world, but what's the alternative? leaving it for other people and animals to step in? also I'm pretty sure dealing with your pet's shit isn't exclusive to dog owners

there is no such thing
GermanyBernd2023-02-05 16:25:46 · 3yNo. 252683reply
>what's the alternative?
The alternative would be to get a different pet. Vegetarian pets typically don't have that disgusting poops. Kots can poop at a single place that you don't have to clean everyday.
On the other hand other pets are not bred in a way they get high just from seeing their owner. Also while it might be super annoying to have to walk your dog everyday it might actually be a good habit that you are happy to be forced into. So whatever. It was just a random thought I deemed interesting enough to post.

Graphics seems to be bullshit though.
Number of cases of Tick-borne encephalitis is 10000-12000 cases ans year. Death rate is 1-2%. So a tick kills 100-240 people a year with TBE alone. But they don't list them in the graphic.
And this is from TBE alone. Ticks especially from warmer climates can give you several other deadly diseases.
