YASSSSS! Meanwhile I'm stuck on Ubuntu 22.04 :'(
GermanyBernd2022-12-21 19:24:22 · 4yNo. 244581reply
Why are you stuck? Make a backup of your personal files and install Linux Mint 21.1. Its not hard. Gonna donate some XMR to Linux Mint rn.

I need this specific distro for work unfortunately.
GermanyBernd2022-12-21 19:34:54 · 4yNo. 244585reply
You use the same computer for work and personal stuff? I wouldn’t mix those two.
Why do you specifically need Ubuntu? Linux Mint is based on it, every package that works on Ubuntu also works on Mint.
MoscowBernd2022-12-21 19:39:43 · 4yNo. 244586reply
I use home computer only to play youtube videos before sleep, wouldn't want to reinstall anything there any time soon.

> Why do you specifically need Ubuntu?
Company policy, we need to have the same OS bugs everywhere.

I will seed the new Mint though :)

>I will seed the new Mint though :)
Very kind of you, sir. I’ve been seeding it for a couple of hours as well already. Gonna seed it until the next version will be released.

Fuck off, pedo.

Proof that I really donated to Linux Mint.

Why not just use Kubuntu or something related? I mean, I installed a LM LTS version a few years ago on my mom's laptop and it worked (most of the times), but when she upgraded her hardware I installed Kubuntu. In the end LM is just Ubuntu. Ubuntu with an ugly green skin. I didn't like Cinnamon a few years ago, guess it matured (I used the MATE version on her device anyways), but still. I didn't see any reason to go for LM again.

Why not donate to the Linux foundation or Ubuntu or Children in needs, but to an entity that force-installs shit to the Firefox they ship and add affiliate links and whatnot.
GermanyBernd2022-12-22 06:13:50 · 4yNo. 244646reply
I donate to Linux Mint, because I use this software daily for years already. I appreciate all their hard work and Linux Mint is the perfect Linux distro for me. Ubuntu got worse and worse over the last years, they don’t care about their users anymore and push stuff nobody wants (snap for example). For me personally, Linux Mint always worked better than Ubuntu. Yes, Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, but it improves it greatly in my opinion.
MoscowBernd2022-12-22 07:06:26 · 4yNo. 244651reply
If you only need a browser then it's fine.

My problems with Ubuntu:
1. snap store
2. wayland
3. lack of settings
4. I don't know how they managed it but it just slow, it even boots 2 times slower than Mint.

It doesn't "just work", it gives you a non user friendly, corporation-approved product.
They want to be MacOS but fail in every way.

>hard work
And what would that be exactly?
GermanyBernd2022-12-22 07:59:57 · 4yNo. 244655reply
What's the issue with Wayland? Wayland seems like the new topic to screeeeeech about for autists after they accepted systemd or just moved to obscure distros
GermanyBernd2022-12-22 08:00:22 · 4yNo. 244656reply
No point in arguing anymore, because you argue in bad faith. You have your already fixed opinion and no matter what I would say, you would reject it just out of principle.
GermanyBernd2022-12-22 08:05:53 · 4yNo. 244657sagereply
Okay. I wouldn't have expected a technical debate from someone shilling Linux Mint anyways, so we can just leave it like that
MoscowBernd2022-12-22 08:10:56 · 4yNo. 244658reply
Some old programs do not work with it, some new programs glitch out. If you have resolution scaling turned on - it's a huge pain because 50% of software will appear blurry.

X.org is an outdated and insecure collection of hacks at this point, but every piece of software accounted for that. Wayland has modern architecture and good ideas, but it's not ready for mass adoption yet. Yet Ubuntu does not leave a choice to opt out from using Wayland.

Can you pair a bluetooth headset without installing blueman-applet? It was broken in LM20.
GermanyBernd2022-12-22 08:31:57 · 4yNo. 244662reply
I have not tried it, but in Linux Mint 21 Blueberry was replaced with Blueman out of the box.
MoscowBernd2022-12-22 08:32:57 · 4yNo. 244663reply
that's good news, thanks
