Lifting weights is actually pretty horrible for losing weight.
You are only working out one muscle group at a time, and pushing strain to the limits. You have high power output, yes, but it's only in bursts, before you tire yourself out.
What you want to go for instead is prolonged workout that activates as many muscles as possible. Lower strain won't wear you out & you can continue putting out work steadily for much longer periods, in turn giving higher overall energy expenditure.
