there's modern variant in croatia, they break stones with tiny plasma bit (you can watch on youtube)

you can dig deeper obviously, its just not really tried, and maybe only possible when the crust is narrow
also you don't always want the hottest/most performant configuration
400 is some average, you can obviously do better in better region, their main point is that with their tech it is feasible everywhere or in most places
this will even work in antarctica, or in places where there's no fuel at all

ppl pump the heat to their houses, it actually pays off yet its relatively complex to do and in colder climate basically it doesn't really work (just alone.... probably still saves few bucks when the weather is better)
